Montgomery County Police Officer Dead; Widow is Expecting Triplets in June and Has a 14-month-old son
Last Friday I headed to Home Depot for track lighting. My son was happy, at camp.
Traffic was stopped at the big intersection of Georgia and Connecticut Avenues.
‘What could be happening?’ I thought…
And then I saw a Huge Motorcade of Police Motorcycles, and then Police Cars… I’ve never seen a Funeral Motorcade that long, and unfortunately, I’ve seen a lot of funeral motorcades.
‘O God, it’s a Cop.’ I thought.
It was a police officer’s funeral procession. It was the funeral procession for Hector Ayala, who died in a car crash while responding to a fellow officer’s call for assistance for a fight in progress…
…on Easter Morning.
I learned later that day that Sergeant Ayala’s widow, Melissa, has a 14-month-old son,
and is expecting triplets… in June.
And then I thought about her,
and it knocked the wind out of me. It was like I had been punched, but no one was there. I had trouble breathing for a moment, and then had to take a few, slow, deep breaths.

Have You Ever Seen A Snowman Tomato? I Have
Filed under: Food and Drink, Kindergartners, The Cool in Everyday Life
“Mom! We gotta get a picture of this!”
It’s a tomato… but it’s way more than that,
according to my son, it’s a ‘snowman tomato’.
It’s 2 tomatoes grown together… I think…
Very Cool! The coolness of this tomato did not stop my son from
immediately eating it after this picture was taken, however…
Sorry Mr. Tomato, a 6-year-old’s loyalty is brief and fleeting
Who Knew Deviled Eggs Were This Easy?
The Short Answer to that question is…
probably everyone but me.
BUT, for everyone else out there who has never attempted to make deviled eggs,
because, like me, you thought they were
‘so complicated’ and
‘kinda gourmet’,
But really you think,
‘Why make them when you can buy them already made in the grocery store, and even-in-a-cute ‘deviled egg container’? …
Well, I’m here to tell you- Deviled Eggs are incredibly EASY to make,
Incredibly QUICK to make,
And I’m sure you have all the ingredients in your pantry already…
READY? Here we go-
Boil eggs.
Cut them in half.
Remove the yolks,
and mix them with
Mayo,
mustard,
and a touch of vinegar…
Yeah, that’s it…
Add a touch of paprika on top for a nice little spice.
And Yeah, that’s it.
I’m feeling like,
‘How have I been alive for this long and never knew this? How can I have been a mother for this long and never attempted this before? Who knows how many ‘hard’ things out there… are really pretty easy?! I bet you poached eggs aren’t that hard either!’
So now you know,
and you’re the Cool Mom… with deviled eggs for snacks!

Visit The ‘Other’ Cherry Blossoms Around DC!
Don’t want to fight the crowds down at the Tidal Basin?…
It’s really not that bad- as I wrote last year (parking is easy- at least during the week).
But lugging kids around can be cumbersome… so –
There is ANOTHER, GREAT ALTERNATIVE!
Go see GORGEOUS CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN BLOOM in Kenwood!
The entire neighborhood is covered and lined with Cherry Blossoms… everywhere!
They even create a canopy of blossoms over the street- it’s super cool,
and quite lovely (I love the word ‘lovely’… How was your day? ‘Lovely, Thanks.’)
Get on Little Falls Parkway, and Turn into Kenwood at Dorset Ave. There is a ‘Kenwood’ Sign.
You can even walk the Capital Cresent Trail- it goes right through Kenwood!
It’s a nice little field trip-
Enjoy!
Team WhyMommy Virtual Science Fair- Our Experiment was Cool… and Messy
Filed under: Around DC, dc metro moms, Kindergartners, Mom Blogs
 Today I am joining a lot of Mommy Bloggers out there to support Susan, aka WhyMommy;
She is a great mom, cool blogger… AN ASTROPHYSICIST (How cool is that?!) and a cancer fighter and survivor.
Today she is undergoing surgery… again.
To Honor Susan and her love and attention to Science, we did a Science Experiment!
Now, I am NOT an astrophysicist, and neither is my son, although who knows, he may be some day-
so we took a page from an experiment we saw on WETA KIDS. And that’s a lesson in itself- you don’t have to make-up your own science experiment, if your child is excited to try an experiment they’ve seen… go do it!
My son wanted to make canals of water, change their direction and flow, and see how gravity affects the water canals.
We started out by digging the canals with a couple of different ways the water could go-
Then we blocked one of the canals-

But we soon found out that water can go around a blockage, so we did it again,

This Time, we were successful!

And we watched our ball continue down the canal that we wanted!
But that wasn’t it for us- we decided, since we had dug up part of a flower bed in our back yard,
and already ‘watered’ it-
that we would plant flower seeds all over !!!!!

Because We Are ALL ABOUT New Life, Living, and Planting Seeds of Hope
Here at BananaBlueberry!
And That’s How We Roll!
These Flowers Seeds are FOR YOU SUSAN!
MUCH LOVE AND MANY PRAYERS TO YOU TODAY SUSAN, AND EVERY DAY!

Art Project: Make Steering Wheels From Paper Plates!
 Got a car-obsessed, truck-loving kid?
I do.
There are cars and trucks ALL OVER my house…
and steering wheels.
‘Steering wheels?’ You may ask…
Why yes, steering wheels.
They are really paper plates, but the minute they are cut and decorated with symbols, they become…
steering wheels.
My son LOVES them and HIS FRIENDS do too.
We have All car brands represented, and he likes to pick a favorite-of-the-day to take along with him in the car. He ‘drives’ in the back seat, we keep extra steering wheels in the car for friends and THEY drive in the back seat too, in our car.
Ahhh, imagination
How do you make a steering wheel? Well, we’ve done research here in our house (trust me), and we’ve found the best site to find ALL DIFFERENT BRANDS of cars and thus, pictures of steering wheels, is CarMax. Click on whatever ‘kind’ of car steering wheel you want (Toyota, Chevy, etc.), click on a specific car, and there will be pictures of it,
Click on ‘More Photos’ under each car and there is always a close up of the steering wheel.
Isn’t that cool?
So now you know,
and you’re the Cool Mom
An EASY Field Trip… A Car Dealership
I recently asked my son What He Wanted to Do…
His Reply- “I’d like to go to EuroMotorCars,
and check out the new Mercedes Sprinter Vans
that I saw in the parking lot.”
Okay…
So we went!
If you have a child who loves cars and trucks and anything with wheels, check out a local car dealership.
Just let them know you’re ‘just looking’, or rather, Your Son is
What an Easy ‘Field Trip’!
