Disney Books are now Online!
My last post was about Disney On Ice. This is completely separate Disney news- and very good news at that!
Disney has put it’s HUGE Library of Books online, for the 1st time ever!
What’s even better is that there are no games and mass advertising on this site,
it’s just books.
Your child ‘turns’ the pages; they can be read to, or read themselves. They can move their ‘pen’ over a word to get the pronunciation, or even the definition.
I LOVE this idea!
But- this is not free. I believe it is reasonable, however.
Go to Disney Digital Books, and see for yourself-
You can get a month subscription for $8.95 (this is for up to 3 children) or an annual membership for $79.95 (also for up to 3 children).
You can also go to Digital Disney Books and get a FREE look at the site right now
AND read 7 books for FREE.
Again, I love this idea=
The magic of Disney + reading= Priceless

An Unbelievable Moment That Only Happens When You Are Outnumbered 2 to 1 By Guys
It happened yesterday, amid a totally delightful afternoon…
I left my son and husband alone for mere moments in the living room. Upon my return, my son pointed out the Halloween stickers he stuck to -1. the living room wall, and 2. the glass pained door at the back of our living room that leads to our screened-in porch.
Incredulously, I looked at my husband, saying to him through my mom-vulcan-stare, aka-
“Why did you let our little guy stick halloween stickers to our painted walls and nice glass?”
His response:
“Stickers aren’t permanent. Worst case scenario: we can get them off with a razor blade.”
Yes, a RAZOR BLADE. I’m not kidding. I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried…
So, both males, still thinking it’s no big deal, went into our computer room,
meanwhile, I gently pulled the stickers off THE WALL AND GLASS,
stuck them to A PIECE OF PAPER,
and wrote ‘Happy Halloween’ and put that up,
for a Halloween ‘decoration’…
Everyone wins
I still cannot believe I actually heard, “… worst case scenario: we can use a razor blade…”

I Saw Decorated Christmas Trees on Columbus Day
As I just typed that title I thought of the movie line from The 6th Sense– ‘I see dead people.’
But in a weird way, that is kind of appropriate, in a ‘this could not really be happening’ kind of way-
Yesterday, it did happen. The day started off like any other, a nice morning, a day off school, a pleasant breeze, the fresh Fall air…
and my son and I were walking through Sears… and he stopped in his tracks…
There, before us, were twinkling lights, Christmas decorations, ornaments and 7,
Yes, 7, Christmas Trees.
I’m not ready for Christmas yet, repeat:
I AM NOT READY FOR CHRISTMAS YET.
Let’s enjoy Halloween, Thanksgiving, my son’s birthday… and then we can celebrate Christmas.
Post Script: We then went to a Halloween store to pick out a costume for trick-or-treating…
weird.

‘Flashdance’ Does Not Age Well…
Um Yeah, if you are in mind-veg mode, flipping around channels, while reading and tweeting and surfing the internet at the same time, and you come across Flashdance, and think,
“Flashdance! I loved Flashdance! ‘What a feeling!…’, I’m watching this!”
Do yourself a favor and flip the channel… or just turn off the TV. Those are minutes of your life you will never get back.
I’ll just remind you: Flashdance came out in 1983, yeah, 1983. Nothing from the ’80’s really ages well, especially from the-EARLY ’80s-Flock-of-Seagulls-kind-of-hair-era.
I know leg-warmers are coming back in style (God knows why?!),
but leg warmers weren’t that cool the 1st time around (and I was in a ballet company).
Again,
relax in the evening, watch a silly show, surf the internet, or better yet- read a BOOK
Just don’t linger if you see Flashdance on TV… it really doesn’t age well.
The Cabin John Park System- Really is That Cool!
Looking for something to do? Just take a gander at The Montgomery Parks website!
I have lived here all my life and am still amazed by how many
Park Trails there are, (6 miles of trails in the Cabin John Regional Park ALONE),
There is SO MUCH right here to do For FREE!
Coming up? The Train at Cabin John has a ‘Not-so-Spooky’ train for little ones leading up to Halloween
And Montgomery County is opening its 5th Dog Park right now in Bethesda! Who Knew?
What prompted this post? We found a wonderful, kid-friendly trail, clearly marked, right off of Bradley Blvd. It’s part of the Cabin John trail system. It even tells you- 1.2 miles to River Road, 3.7 (or something like that) to Macarthur Blvd.
And the website IS fantastic- tells you EVERYTHING there is to do!
ENJOY!
Journey: Don’t Stop Believing!
That’s right. Don’t Stop Believin’
I have always loved Journey. There, I said it.
And now, I have another reason to love the longtime band- their new lead singer- Arnel Pineda!
This guy is a rags-to-riches story. Journey found him on YouTube. Are you kidding me? Notice I linked his name… He has a page on Wikipedia now !!!!!!! And he sounds just like Steve Perry… I love a good story!
Arnel, from the Philippines, grew up in poverty and basically sang for his supper, and now-
Arnel has breathed new life into Journey, they just released a new album, and they have now performed on Oprah.
Nice work, gentlemen! You’re done- the best is yet to come!
Praising The Effort! Why Didn’t I Think of That?
I am constantly reminded, thankfully, that motherhood is an evolution. It’s a constant learning process. Just when I think I have it mastered, a.k.a., ‘I know my child’, I am in a situation that surprises me, or he surprises me… Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I sometimes foolishly, on a particularly fantastic day, think that I have it all goin’ on.
And then I don’t. I have read so many parenting books, blogs, internet articles and parenting magazines that I sometimes, again foolishly, think there can’t be a parenting technique or philosophy, I don’t know about.
And then, Kindergarten began…
