Art Project: Make Steering Wheels From Paper Plates!
Got a car-obsessed, truck-loving kid?
I do.
There are cars and trucks ALL OVER my house…
and steering wheels.
‘Steering wheels?’ You may ask…
Why yes, steering wheels.
They are really paper plates, but the minute they are cut and decorated with symbols, they become…
steering wheels.
My son LOVES them and HIS FRIENDS do too.
We have All car brands represented, and he likes to pick a favorite-of-the-day to take along with him in the car. He ‘drives’ in the back seat, we keep extra steering wheels in the car for friends and THEY drive in the back seat too, in our car.
Ahhh, imagination
How do you make a steering wheel? Well, we’ve done research here in our house (trust me), and we’ve found the best site to find ALL DIFFERENT BRANDS of cars and thus, pictures of steering wheels, is CarMax. Click on whatever ‘kind’ of car steering wheel you want (Toyota, Chevy, etc.), click on a specific car, and there will be pictures of it,
Click on ‘More Photos’ under each car and there is always a close up of the steering wheel.
Isn’t that cool?
So now you know,
and you’re the Cool Mom

It’s Hump Day… and Hump Day isn’t so bad
According to Wikipedia:
‘An American English idiom for Wednesday is “hump day”,
a reference to making it through to the middle of the work week as getting “over the hump.”‘
Yeah, I got that…
But then it goes on to say-
‘In Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day, the disagreeable nature of the weather is attributed to it being “Winds-Day” (a play on “Wednesday”). In Richard Brautigan‘s In Watermelon Sugar Wednesday is the day when the sun shines grey.’
and
‘In the 1945 John Steinbeck novel Sweet Thursday, the titular day is preceded by “Lousy Wednesday”.’
What Happened to ‘Happy Hump Day!’ ?
I like Wednesdays…
You are, as mentioned above, ‘Over the Hump’,
but still have time to have a productive week,
and get things done…
So where has the love for Wednesday gone?
Do you like Wednesdays?
Am I the only one?
…Again, where’s the love?

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I Told My Son Leprechauns Are Pretend… And Now His Class is Making Leprechaun Traps… Woops!
I didn’t mean to be, but I am…
A few weeks ago my son and I read a book before bed about St.Patrick’s Day, and he asked me,
“Mom, are Leprechauns Real?”
My answer, “No sweetheart, they’re not real, they’re pretend.” And he was fine with that and I didn’t think another thing about it. He wasn’t upset or anything. And I didn’t think I was violating any ‘unwritten rules’ of childhood…
So last week a project sheet was sent home in his backpack announcing that all the kindergartners were to make
Leprechaun Traps
at home, and bring them in on St. Patrick’s Day… to try and catch a… Yep, a Leprechaun.
My son and husband have been working on a ‘Trap’ for a few days now. It’s sitting on our Dining Room table.
Now here’s the clincher: I haven’t ruined anything for my son by telling him leprechauns are just pretend because…
wait for it…
His teacher told the class they are real… so my son thinks I’m just misinformed… wrong even.
My son totally thinks Leprechauns are real…
Whew! Thank God for 6-year-olds’ suspension-of-disbelief!
But, just a question: Where is it written that leprechauns qualify for the
‘Yes, they’re real, sweetheart, always BELIEVE’ category…
I wish there was a book.
