MY LITTLE LEAP INTO THE 21st CENTURY
I’m sitting here on my couch, doing my first blog post from my brand new Macbook laptop! It is awesome! We just re-wired our home to be ALL wireless- YEY! This is so nice and comfortable. The keyboard is effortless and the picture is clear and concise.
I’m so excited that I can blog, check email and surf blogs while sitting on my couch, half-listening to Sunday Night Football.
And, to top it off, I had the pleasure of hosting a DC Metro Moms Wine Party at my house this weekend and it was SUPER FUN!
More on the wine party tomorrow!
I LOOK LIKE WHO?
Ummmm, okay. I went to the My Heritage website to see which celebrities I most resemble. As you can see- the results are in from scanning my face and the celebrity I MOST resemble is… RON LIVINGSTON ?! Our faces are 71% similiar…
Don’t get me wrong- I think Ron Livingston is a good-looking guy and a very good actor,
BUT HE IS A GUY. I always thought I was more feminine looking than Ron…
And how do I resemble Rosanne Barr AND Rachel Hunter?
THANKS TO STIMEYLAND, a great mom blogger for turning me on to this site
GOOD STUFF, BUT I KNOW I’LL MISS MY ‘LUNCH DATE’
Even though it is a rainy Friday afternoon, I’m excited.
We’ve had a great and busy summer and school starts on Tuesday.
I’ve been savoring every lunch with my son this week
because this has been the last week that I will be able to eat lunch with him… he goes to preschool EVERY day this fall for the first time, not just Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
I’m going to miss my ‘lunch date’,
but I’m happy he’s growing up to be a little man and that he is excited for school.
I’m also happy that the start of school means that Autumn is not far away;
Autumn is my FAVORITE SEASON!
My opinion (of course, it’s my blog): Autumn is the most beautiful season and has the best smells…
and the best holidays!

WHAT I LEARNED AT THE BEACH FROM 6 BOYS
We had a beautiful July 4th weekend down at the beach.
Friends of ours invited us down to their Bethany Beach house. They have 5 boys… the last two are ages 2 and 3. Our son is 4. Needless to say, there was always something going on and I was reminded of how important schedules are.
Yes, the mom of these 5 boys is a super woman… and she’s running a half-marathon soon (like she doesn’t every day). I could talk for hours about that,
but I want to share with you what I learned at the beach this past weekend…
from our friends’ 5 sons and our own.
1. When little boys run around the beach all day,
they go to sleep with no problems and sleep very soundly.
2. It’s really nice to share.
3. All boys love chocolate milk… and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
4. No matter the age of the boy, he understands more than you may think.
5. When you pay attention to someone (younger than yourself) for even just a moment and listen to them-
Everyone is happier and
Everyone is the better for it.
And lastly, I learned the amount of orange juice you go through is incredible.
FOR SANITY… DO MATH
Being around little ones all day has a lot of benefits…
But there are some downsides, like getting a silly song stuck in your head. Many, many times I’ve found myself cooking dinner or folding laundry just to realize that I’m singing in my head,
“Laurie’s got a pig on her head” or
“F is for Fun, F is for Fun… “ (I don’t mind that one, I love that song!).
I bring you an answer! My husband read recently that a tried and true way to get a song out of your head is to…
DO MATH!
Next time your have some song in your head that’s annoying, just start doing math:
1+1 = 2,
2+2 = 4,
1,826 + 3,677 = 5,503 (okay, I used a calculator for that one),
8+8 = 16.
It just takes a minute and your mind will be clear…
Ahhh, Sanity

‘KUNG FU PANDA’ PARTY
“Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting…”
The song is still playing in my head. It played in a loop during the AWESOME Kung Fu Panda party that our family went to this past weekend.
The party was FREE and very cool. We were invited because I am a contributor to DC Metro Moms Blog… a wonderful and helpful site and community. It is a great resource and we have sister sites all over the country, so go to DC Metro Moms and click on other sites as well.
My four-year-old son enjoyed the art project table and eating gummy bears and fruit loops with chop sticks…
Loved the dancers teaching the Kung Fu Panda Dance…
But he was in AWE of the Kung Fu Panda video game.
He has never played a video game before. I’ve lived by the premise-
He can’t miss what he doesn’t know about.
But this was a special party and experience, and in the video game he was a big portly Panda bear so it was pretty cool. He learned how to make the Panda walk and run and turn and dance and like I said, loved it.
I also think comedian AND DAD, Jack Black, who voices Kung Fu Panda is hilarious.
The food was great, complete with mac-n-cheese, delectable chicken fingers and veggies for the kids… Great salad, a custom-made pasta station and carving station for the parents. They even had a great desserts station that had everything made for little hands.
What a fun activity, complete with a cool goodie-bag.
And as a topper- we took Metro downtown to the party- which was equally fun for my little guy (remember ladies and gentlemen- it’s a train ☺).
Thanks to organizers for holding it at Zola which is a half block away from a Metro stop- GOOD PLANNING!
Just for the record: I told him the Kung Fu Panda video game was just to play at the ‘special party’. And he was cool with that.
Right now, we’re sticking with the Kung Fu Panda printable download coloring pages and all the other art project stuff you can download for this fun movie.
Good Stuff!
WHAT TO DO ABOUT HORSE RACING? Can a Mutt Save the Day?
This time of year I hop on the bandwagon of horse racing, like everyone else. I enjoy it… and know nothing about it.
As everyone knows, Big Brown has won The Kentucky Derby And The Preakness. If he wins The Belmont on June 7th- he wins the Triple Crown, which no horse has won in 30 years.
But horse racing seems to be changing. Barbaro won The Kentucky Derby in 2006. He then shattered a leg at The Preakness and had to be euthanized the following January.
Eight Belles came in second at The Kentucky Derby this year. The filly then broke both her legs galloping after the race and had to be euthanized on the track.
Eight Belles is related to Barbaro. And guess who else is? Yep- Big Brown. Did Barbaro pass on a gene of weak front legs? That doesn’t make sense, how could it win races if its legs were weak?
But why are top horses in racing breaking their legs… ?
I do not think there is one answer or one entity to blame. However, horse racing is a HUGE business now. There is a lot of money involved. There is a level of money involved now that owners can pay whatever fee is required to breed their prizewinner with another prizewinner.
These horses are breeding offspring that are bigger and faster. But something has to change if horses keep dying.
America will not tolerate another Kentucky Derby where the second place finisher dies on the track.
So what’s the answer? I’ve read that these horses are extremely well cared for and their jockeys treat them as a member of their family. Is horse racing unconsciously breeding horses that are
too big and too fast.
Horse racing may someday, maybe someday soon, have to regulate breeding-
like say that 2 big-time winning horses cannot breed, or something like that…
Basically, the mutt may have to be re-introduced into racing. Mutts are healthy for a species…
I’m a mutt, my son is a mutt. Mutts are cool.
Mutts might just be the answer.
