The Montgomery Farm Women's Cooperative Market !

This weekend, this Memorial Day Weekend, our Family is celebrating living in the DC Metro Area, the Nation’s Capital, by visiting local merchants and growers and going GREEN, thanks to help from the GM East Team at General Motors, who gave us a gorgeous Cadillac XTS (which drives like a dream) for a week!!
The first stop on our Green Weekend was a Farmers Market, but not just any farmers market- my son, who was off school, and I went to the Montgomery Farm Women’s Cooperative Market in Bethesda, Maryland.
THIS MARKET WAS STARTED, BY WOMEN, IN 1932 !!
And it was heralded as the only farm woman’s cooperative of its kind in the world!! And it’s still around!
This is what I love about living in the DC area- it’s not just about the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, although those are pieces of history that are very important.
DC is about finding little gems and pieces of magic that are right under your nose. Almost everything in this region has some kind of historical significance, and I love that!
We saw beautiful flowers

Flowers sold at the Market by 'Plant Masters'

And some delicious cheeses from Stonyman Gourmet Farmer, in fact we bought a Gouda from them that was delicious!

The cheeses are from Washington, Virginia… which was laid out by none other than George Washington himself, when he was a surveyor- how’s that for historical!!
Everything was fresh and beautiful!
My son, a car fanatic, and I had a wonderful day driving around the Washington Area in the Cadillac XTS, like I said before, it drives like a dream.
Thanks again GM East Team!
Stay tuned for tomorrow !!

The Joy Of Black Friday Shopping !

Are you going out on Black Friday?  I AM !!!!  I had a great experience a few years ago…

Here’s My Story About it …

Well, I finally did it.  I went against years of eye rolling and head shaking… and I joined the shoppers in the early morning on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

I had previously sworn off Christmas shopping even on weekends- due to crowds.  I had always shopped strictly on weekdays, when parking is easy and crowds are… nonexistent.

But the deals that were being advertised got me, and the desire to surprise my parents with a laptop computer this Christmas…

So there I was, dropped off on the sidewalk in front of Staples… at 7:45am.

(Please; I wouldn’t forgo regular sleep for shopping; 7:45 was early enough.)

I walked in.  People were shopping, but it wasn’t crazy.  I was told there was a ‘laptop area’, approached it, and within a few minutes I was being helped.

Every employee was really well informed, and helpful.  The assistant manager who helped me with the laptop, also helped me find the 50%-off shredder I had seen in the paper (my gift to myself- I’ve always wanted a paper shredder for some reason AND I got it in ‘sapphire’- gotta love Christmas shopping.)

Then, I got up to the cashier- with my crazy-discounted laptop, the discounted wireless mouse, and my 50%-off sapphire paper shredder- and the assistant manager starts in on what I think is going to be the ‘strong sell’…

“Do you need a new printer to go with your laptop?”

“No.”  I firmly, but nicely replied.

Then the cashier and assistant manager exchanged almost embarrassed looks…

And the cashier looked at me and said,

“They’re five dollars.”

What?  What did she mean?  I thought I heard her wrong…  But it turned out that when you bought a laptop during ‘early bird’ hours on Black Friday, you could also get a new printer for $5, or a wireless, touchpad printer for $15.00.

… So I got the wireless touchpad printer for our computer room for fifteen dollars!!

My guys had decided against going to Dunkin’ Donuts and instead found a parking space right in front of the store, and walked in- just in time for us all to carry packages out to the car!

Success!  For a moment, I thought I heard trumpets playing…

I was so inspired- I did something I wasn’t planning on doing.  In fact, I never thought I’d do it-

I told my husband and my son to do some male bonding … and I WENT BACK OUT SHOPPING!

I went to Toys R US next-

It was busy, but so well organized! There were tons of helpful employees, the checkout was incredible, almost no wait- one line, specially made for Black Friday, and a guy pointing out clear cashiers… And last but not least- a young man whose sole job was passing out complimentary boxes of new 64 crayon sets!

I was having such a great time… I went to 4 more stores !!!!

I got some GREAT deals!

And people were nice, not crazy.

I think I just may do this again next year, I almost feel like the ‘Shopping Scrooge’ who has been enlightened, and now sees the error in their ‘previous shopping ways’…

Black Friday Shopping-

Another tradition has begun!

This post is LONG overdue.
I am so proud to be a Washingtonian. On this day, on all days.

I want to say Thank you to our city and to the Washington Nationals Baseball Team.

The team is exciting.  This city is excited.

We actually watch baseball, Washington Nationals Baseball, EVERY NIGHT.  I am keeping up with our record, the team, the players, stats, everything.

I have always loved baseball.  But I have never in my life watched a baseball game every night of the season.  And that’s what I am doing this season.

IT IS SO NICE TO BE ROOTING FOR A WINNING TEAM !!!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE IN FIRST PLACE !!

WE COULD, GO, ALL, THE WAY !!!!!!

GO NATS!

#NATITUDE

… and the Redskins won on Sunday!  It looks like RG3 is the real deal!  Yey!

We have a good baseball team, a good hockey team, and a good football team (fingers crossed) !!!!!!

LET’S WALK WITH CESAR !!

This summer Warner Bros.’ Scooby-Doo and Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan are teaming up for the

2nd Annual National Family Pack Walk

taking place September 29th in Washington DC!

The 2012 Pack Walk brings families and their furry friends together for a 1.5 mile walk around the National Mall, led by Cesar Millan and Scooby-Doo,

followed by an afternoon of Scooby-themed activities.

Hot off the heels of last year’s successful walk in Los Angeles, this year’s event expands the program and integrates additional community walks throughout the country with the help of North Shore Animal League September 24–30th.

All proceeds from the National Family Pack Walk events will be donated to the Millan Foundation, which raises awareness and supports the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of abused and abandoned dogs.

Here’s a link to sign up and donate:  Walk With Cesar !

Go See The Cherry Blossoms Now! Parking is Easy…

March 21, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

It’s that time of year ladies and gentlemen…

It’s…

Cherry Blossom Festival Time!!

You have to go down,

the Cherry Blossoms are BEAUTIFUL,

we went down Monday,

and during the week…

PARKING IS NOT A PROBLEM,

REPEAT,

PARKING IS NOT A PROBLEM.

What nobody ever tells you is that one lane that surrounds the tidal basin basically, is parking…

and it’s all free.

I don’t know why people get in such a tizzy over Cherry Blossom parking every year.

You will probably have to drive very slowly and look for a space, but you will find one, and at the end, there are always some.

JUST BE PATIENT :)

The blossoms are truly worth it !!!

It’s a bucket list item… and it’s SO EASY :)

BTW – Go Now!  Blossoms aren’t officially at peak, but they look like they are !
