My Son Started Kindergarten Today

books      My Son started Kindergarten today. I dropped him off about an hour ago.

He’s wearing a uniform.  His lunch is packed.  And I’m not picking him up until 3pm…

Sounds like a lot for a 5-year-old…

But he barely turned around to say bye as he entered his classroom, due to his excitement.

Now I’m the one who has to hold it together.

This is the first day of the rest of my life.

graphic_marctrain     School doesn’t start for us until next week;

If you are like us and looking for something to do-

check out a train… in Kensington!

Go to Black Market Bistro in Garret Park for lunch=

The train goes right by!  The train tracks are right there!

This is so much fun for little ones!

As always, be safe, there is no safety rail by the train tracks.

Trains go by at least 2 times an hour.

Enjoy!

Visit The National Postal Museum!

The National Postal Museum   We just made our first trip to The National Postal Museum !

What a great little museum- and it’s so easy to get to!

It’s located in the Old Post Office building next to Union Station in D.C.  It’s been around since 1993,

is open 7 days a week, from 10 am – 5:30 pm,

and of course, admission is free!

This is not an entire day trip, it’s not a big museum,

but the old train car and old planes that are there to show you how they used to move the mail are very cool.

The coolest: an actual cab of an 18- wheeler that moves the mail- that kids can climb up into and ‘drive’,

my son LOVED IT!

Check it out if you’re looking for a little ‘field trip';

take metro to Union Station, look at the trains there and go next door to the museum!

book   It’s August, and a beautiful day here,

so I’m going with a simple, yet important quote today:

“If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck- it’s a duck.

Don’t over-think things, it’s that simple :)

book     Welcome to Quotable Friday!

I love great quotes- they make us think, they inspire, and bring a smile to our faces.

So here it is.  Here’s this Friday’s quote.

Thanks to my friend Bianca, for passing it along!

“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…  It’s about learning to dance in the rain.”

Go To White’s Ferry- and Cross the Potomac!

White's Ferry     Bored of the Pool?

Take a ‘Field Trip’ to White’s Ferry!

If you live in Montgomery County, MD or Leesburg, VA and the surrounding areas-

it’s an easy trip!

White’s Ferry is a ferry service offering transportation across the Potomac river between Maryland and Virginia.  It’s located just north of Leesburg on the Virginia side and about 6 miles west of Poolesville on the Maryland side.

Vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists are welcome.  The fare for cars is $4 for one way and $7 for a roundtrip crossing.

They also have an old country store that serves lunch,  and picnic tables!

NOW THE IMPORTANT PART:

This is a fun little trip for kids…  My son had never been on a ferry before, so he loved it.

BUT, it lasts for about 4 or 5 minutes,

and goes very slow,

SO OLDER KIDS may not think it’s that cool of a ‘field trip’…

If you live close- do it;

If you don’t live close, BUT have LITTLE kids,

still do it.

The drive is nice, Historic Leesburg is nice too,

(and the Leesburg outlets are right there too).

ONE OTHER COOL THING:  You pass Homestead Farm in Poolesville, coming from Montgomery County,

Yes, the Homestead Farm of Pumpkin Patch fame,

only now- you can stop in and pick your own Peaches and Blueberries,

And you know how much I love Blueberries!

Man Rules

The following are MAN RULES. This is amended from an email I got :)

Men are NOT mind readers.

 Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a
color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine…
Really.

You have enough clothes.

You have too many shoes.

Well, the last one isn’t true… how can anyone have too many shoes!

Go to Hershey!

We just got back from Hershey Park and what a great time it was!

If you’ve never gone- Go!

The drive is EASY from the DC area: just get on 270 and drive straight, I mean it.  270 becomes 40, and 40 becomes 15, you then make 1 exit and that’s it, until you see signs for Hershey Park.  It takes 2 hours, with no traffic, 2 hours and 15 minutes with traffic… it’s SO EASY!

They’ve expanded their waterpark, it now contains a big wave pool, with cabanas, and a lazy river ride.

We were there for 2 days and didn’t even take our bathing suits, if you want to do the waterpark stuff- devote a whole day to it.

AND YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT ELSE IS NEW?!  There are touchless hand sanitizers at the entrance to every kiddie ride:  you just put your hands under the box and it sprays your hands with hand sanitizer… BEST IDEA EVER !!!!!

And the bathrooms- because Moms care about this:

All the bathrooms have touchless soap dispensers, touchless water faucets, and touchless paper towel machines !!!!!!!  YEY !!!!  No germs, or almost no germs!

If you can go on a weekday- DO IT!  We went on Thursday and there were no lines for rides; by Friday, there were lines, but still do-able.  I wouldn’t even attempt to go on a Saturday, it must be So crowded.

Next year we’re going on a Monday and Tuesday.

Click here for Hershey Park coupons and packages available!

During the month of June, for example, go to any DC area CVS, Dairy Queen, or Quiznos and pick up $12 off coupons for regular admission!

YEY- go to Hershey- the sweetest place on earth !!!
