‘Womenomics’ Book Party at PunditMom’s
On Thursday I had pleasure of going to PunditMom‘s house for a great Book Party! The Book- Womenomics– By Claire Shipman and Katty Kay.
What a lovely morning- coffee, good discussion, great women… and a welcome distraction from my son’s last day going to camp or school at Bradley Hills Nursery School where we’ve both grown up over the past 3 years…
But back to the Book Party-
I like this book. I’m not done it yet, but it is inspirational. It is practical too: some may think-
‘I can’t negotiate with my boss?!’
‘I need my job, I’m not going to ask for more.’
But that’s the point of this book- you can- you have to start thinking that you can,
and work from there.
Katty Kay and Claire Shipman are warm, welcoming and smart,
Check out the book, it’s our time ladies!
Happy Fourth!
Happy Fourth of July Weekend !
We started out the day today
WATCHING TIGER WOODS
at the AT&T National at Congressional County Club!
It’s really fun to watch a golf tournament- go sometime if you haven’t been before!
BTW- Strollers ARE allowed!
Go to Hershey!
We just got back from Hershey Park and what a great time it was!
If you’ve never gone- Go!
The drive is EASY from the DC area: just get on 270 and drive straight, I mean it. 270 becomes 40, and 40 becomes 15, you then make 1 exit and that’s it, until you see signs for Hershey Park. It takes 2 hours, with no traffic, 2 hours and 15 minutes with traffic… it’s SO EASY!
They’ve expanded their waterpark, it now contains a big wave pool, with cabanas, and a lazy river ride.
We were there for 2 days and didn’t even take our bathing suits, if you want to do the waterpark stuff- devote a whole day to it.
AND YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT ELSE IS NEW?! There are touchless hand sanitizers at the entrance to every kiddie ride: you just put your hands under the box and it sprays your hands with hand sanitizer… BEST IDEA EVER !!!!!
And the bathrooms- because Moms care about this:
All the bathrooms have touchless soap dispensers, touchless water faucets, and touchless paper towel machines !!!!!!! YEY !!!! No germs, or almost no germs!
If you can go on a weekday- DO IT! We went on Thursday and there were no lines for rides; by Friday, there were lines, but still do-able. I wouldn’t even attempt to go on a Saturday, it must be So crowded.
Next year we’re going on a Monday and Tuesday.
Click here for Hershey Park coupons and packages available!
During the month of June, for example, go to any DC area CVS, Dairy Queen, or Quiznos and pick up $12 off coupons for regular admission!
YEY- go to Hershey- the sweetest place on earth !!!
Giant Food is Doing Good For Moms and Health
Giant Food just announced to Mom Bloggers in the area about their ‘Shop For Health, Eat for Life’ Program! I was unable to attend their ‘Kick-Off’ event, but as a happy Giant shopper, I want to spread the word about this great program because Giant continues to make things easier for moms, and listens to their shoppers.
Shop For Health, Eat For Life is a partnership of Giant Food and The American Institute for Cancer Research. The goal is to
* Help individuals and their families reduce their risk of cancer
and
*raise funds for cancer prevention.
From June 19th to July 2nd, Giant will help AICR spread its message of cancer prevention and good health with several in-store promotions and recipes, free nutrition education materials for kids and adults, and product giveaways in selected pharmacies.
AND, if you are around the Bethesda area, check out the Giant Food store on Arlington Road! It has just completed a renovation and the store ROCKS! It now has scanners, self-checkout, and drumroll:
A DELI KIOSK !
The store seems bigger… The job of re-designing a store must be fascinating and whoever did this, whatever firm, has done a great job!
The employees are great too, but then again, they always have been.
AND, they have a coffee machine! You put your money in, it comes out, and
THERE ARE HOLDERS ON THE NEW SHOPPING CARTS!
This has actually made my LIFE easier, I enjoy grocery shopping, my son enjoys it,
he scans everything, he knows how to weigh and print out the labels for produce…
Yey! Thanks Giant!
Visit the American History Museum
What do you do when Daddy has to work on a Saturday?
You go to the American History Museum downtown!
The American History Museum re-opened last fall after a complete renovation… and it’s awesome. The Transportation and Technology Exhibit is fantastic for car fanatics, like my son.
There’s also a kid science section that is great and has people doing experiments and explaining them.
This is also the museum which has Dorothy’s Ruby slippers and the original Kermit The Frog, but don’t go down just for that, it’s a little area with about 10 different things and that’s it…
Another Good Point, However: People tend to think parking is a problem on the Mall-
AND it’s NOT! Parking is FREE on the weekends and we pulled into a spot right by the museum…
NO PROBLEM!
Something to watch out for: The salad bar in the cafeteria is expensive…
Pay attention to how much you are heaping in the big salad bowls that are provided because
it will be weighed!
ENJOY!
My Dad and His Roses… on ‘All Things Considered’
My parents have a 5+ acre Rose Garden.
And they open it up to the public each year on Memorial Day Weekend.
This year NPR’s ‘All Things Considered’ visited their garden!

THYME OUT for Easy, Great Dinners! and BananaBlueberry readers get 10% Off!
I just happened upon a great find for DC Area Moms…
it’s called Thyme Out!
I showed up (unannounced as a mom-blogger), I simply went in as a mom, on the recommendation of a fellow preschool mommy.
Thyme Out has prepared dinners, lunches, sides, a freshly-made-and-frozen section and the list goes on!
Before I go into how good this food is and how many options they have to choose from…
Let me just tell you-
This is a ‘Mom Business’ !!!!!
Missy Carr is a mom of 3 kids, ages 4-7 and a chef! She created Thyme Out in 2006 to help families eat better, healthier food without the stress of dinner preparation.
Check out the Thyme Out Website because it is very easy to get around and tells you all you need to know about menus and ordering online and even delivery!
And I almost forgot- Thyme Out has ongoing PROMOS AND COUPONS!!
I ALSO noticed on their website calendar that they are offering FREE DELIVERY On Saturdays during May,
AND YOU CAN ORDER ONLINE!
I really like that Thyme Out has Ready-To-Cook Family Size Meals! This is really nice as we move into Summer, when family schedules tend to be less structured, thus lending themselves to last minute pizza and fast food orders… Don’t order Pizza! Just swing by Thyme Out, or order online- for healthy family dinners!
** Thyme Out also customizes meals, so if there is a food allergy in the family, they can customize the meals to be “safe”. They work with many families with nut and gluten allergy especially.
Soon, they’ll be adding a
Thyme Out of Town menu designed for taking meals on vacation.
When I went in I picked up some Sweet Potato Fries… I just put them in the oven, according to the directions, and served them as part of dinner.
Thyme Out is right by the intersection of Rockville Pike and Nicholson Lane.
It’s 11401 Woodglen Drive, off of Nicholson Lane, behind Chili’s, and the phone number is 240. 221. 2777.
Check out this great meal alternative for Moms, created by a Mom!
Mention you are a BananaBlueberry reader and get 10% off any order!
And Last But Not Least, ENTER BANBLUE10 (ALL CAPS and then the number 10) for 10% OFF when ordering online!
*$50 minimum, cannot be combined with other offers… and this is good through June 30th!*
Winners!
I’m totally off my ‘game’ today because we were at the beach all weekend for Mother’s Day, got home late, and now my son has strep throat; we’ve been to the doctors’ and we’re home sick… great.
Anyway, I got 3 comments, 1 which I just accidentally deleted, but I know who it was- so I’m giving all the ladies who commented-
Stuffed Arties
Enjoy! I’ll send them to you and drop them by your ‘blog bases’- but don’t worry- not for a few days-
I know you don’t want strep throat.
