Go To The Beach This Time of Year!

Bethany Beach Doesn’t this look idyllic? It was.
This past weekend we spent at the beach! It was beautiful weather. Wonderful friends of ours gave us the keys to their beach house and we had a fantastic time.
Consider going down to the Eastern Shore this time of year- Bethany Beach, Dewey, Rehoboth Beach;
things are still open, the weather is nice, and every shop is having a sale.
And rates are much less than ‘high season’.
Consider it for the spring too-
It’s a short drive from DC and a nice ‘getaway’.

BONUS: There are outlets in Rehoboth and right after the Bay Bridge :)

A Little Field Trip… and a Shout-Out

Locust Grove Nature Center I am constantly amazed by how many great things there are to do in the DC area!

And thanks to our wonderful parks system, they are by and large- FREE!

I recently found – The Locust Grove Nature Center and it’s right off Democracy Blvd. in Bethesda!

You walk over a little bridge into the Nature Center area and there are lots of things to play with and see, they even have a butterfly garden!

I found this place through Fun and Learning, a great mom blog about things to do in Montgomery County.  Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I’ve driven by the little sign hundreds of times and not noticed it.  I’m so aware, it scares me!

It’s at 7777 Democracy Blvd., right past Montgomery Mall…  who knew?

Well, Fun and Learning did, check out the link above to read her in-depth review of this great little nature center!!

ENJOY!

wiggle-room I’m giving a much deserved ‘Shout Out’ today to Wiggle Room in Bethesda.

Wiggle Room is a maternity and children’s consignment boutique!  It carries:

  • Children’s clothing, top labels size newborn – 6 years
  • Maternity clothing (hip and designer lines)
  • Children’s gear such as strollers, baby carriers, bouncy seats, high chairs
  • Nursery accessories
  • Selected toys and baby gifts, with a focus on eco-friendly/nontoxic products

I’ve shopped at the store and consigned with this store- they are great!

It’s under new ownership and has now EXPANDED!

I was just in there and the store looks great.

Check out the Wiggle Room website–  they even have a new ‘Wish List’ tab where you can ask them to be on the lookout for a certain piece of clothing, for example, “I’m looking for a blue boy’s blazer” or “a purple dress in a size 12 months.”

ReDuce.  ReUse.  ReWear.     cool motto, huh!

Enjoy!

graphic_marctrain     School doesn’t start for us until next week;

If you are like us and looking for something to do-

check out a train… in Kensington!

Go to Black Market Bistro in Garret Park for lunch=

The train goes right by!  The train tracks are right there!

This is so much fun for little ones!

As always, be safe, there is no safety rail by the train tracks.

Trains go by at least 2 times an hour.

Enjoy!

Visit The National Postal Museum!

The National Postal Museum   We just made our first trip to The National Postal Museum !

What a great little museum- and it’s so easy to get to!

It’s located in the Old Post Office building next to Union Station in D.C.  It’s been around since 1993,

is open 7 days a week, from 10 am – 5:30 pm,

and of course, admission is free!

This is not an entire day trip, it’s not a big museum,

but the old train car and old planes that are there to show you how they used to move the mail are very cool.

The coolest: an actual cab of an 18- wheeler that moves the mail- that kids can climb up into and ‘drive’,

my son LOVED IT!

Check it out if you’re looking for a little ‘field trip';

take metro to Union Station, look at the trains there and go next door to the museum!

Wheaton Regional Park has a train and carousel and playgrounds and picnic areas!!

Thanks to ResourcefulMommy for inviting us- check out her site for great tips on just about everything!

And also check out TeachMama – She has a great site on ingenious ways to teach your kids;

She and her cute kids were at the picnic too- She’s awesome :)

Check out Wheaton Regional if you get a chance- their link doesn’t work,

but it’s in Wheaton (obviously) and off of Georgia Avenue.

ENJOY!

Lyle The Crocodile     This morning we went to ‘Lyle The Crocodile’ at

Imagination Stage!

The show was great!

And with seats starting at $10 and going up to $21,
you can’t go wrong.

Parking is easy, with a parking garage a few steps away.

The cast was great!

Another little bonus- their website shows you the theater’s seating chart, what seats are still available,

AND shows you the view from that seat when you move your cursor over it!

ENJOY!

Bethesda Transportation Solutions

Do you want a little ‘Field Trip’… that’s EASY?

Take a ride on the Bethesda Trolley!

The ‘Bethesda Circulator’ goes all through Bethesda and the route takes about 30 minutes-

best of all- it’s FREE!

You can catch it anywhere you see a ‘Bethesda Circulator’ sign,

a good place to start is the Barnes and Noble Fountain on the corner of Bethesda Ave. and Woodmont.

There’s parking right there and you can get a great snow cone to finish your trolley ride on that corner too!

Enjoy!

Go To White’s Ferry- and Cross the Potomac!

White's Ferry     Bored of the Pool?

Take a ‘Field Trip’ to White’s Ferry!

If you live in Montgomery County, MD or Leesburg, VA and the surrounding areas-

it’s an easy trip!

White’s Ferry is a ferry service offering transportation across the Potomac river between Maryland and Virginia.  It’s located just north of Leesburg on the Virginia side and about 6 miles west of Poolesville on the Maryland side.

 Vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists are welcome.  The fare for cars is $4 for one way and $7 for a roundtrip crossing.

They also have an old country store that serves lunch,  and picnic tables!

NOW THE IMPORTANT PART:

This is a fun little trip for kids…  My son had never been on a ferry before, so he loved it.

BUT, it lasts for about 4 or 5 minutes,

and goes very slow,

SO OLDER KIDS may not think it’s that cool of a ‘field trip’…

If you live close- do it;

If you don’t live close, BUT have LITTLE kids,

still do it.

The drive is nice, Historic Leesburg is nice too,

(and the Leesburg outlets are right there too).

ONE OTHER COOL THING:  You pass Homestead Farm in Poolesville, coming from Montgomery County,

Yes, the Homestead Farm of Pumpkin Patch fame,

only now- you can stop in and pick your own Peaches and Blueberries,

And you know how much I love Blueberries!
