Visit The National Postal Museum!

The National Postal Museum   We just made our first trip to The National Postal Museum !

What a great little museum- and it’s so easy to get to!

It’s located in the Old Post Office building next to Union Station in D.C.  It’s been around since 1993,

is open 7 days a week, from 10 am – 5:30 pm,

and of course, admission is free!

This is not an entire day trip, it’s not a big museum,

but the old train car and old planes that are there to show you how they used to move the mail are very cool.

The coolest: an actual cab of an 18- wheeler that moves the mail- that kids can climb up into and ‘drive’,

my son LOVED IT!

Check it out if you’re looking for a little ‘field trip';

take metro to Union Station, look at the trains there and go next door to the museum!

Get Rid Of Bugs With Bags of Water

Get RId of Flies     Has anyone ever heard of this?  2 of my friends swear by it.

There are lots of gnats around lately…

want to get rid of them?

If you are grilling out or playing or just sitting around in some adirondack chairs-

FILL UP  ZIPLOCK SANDWICH BAGS WITH WATER,

ALMOST  FULL, NOT ALL THE WAY.

Put these bags on tables, the arms of chairs, etc.

AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE IN THE SUN!

The scattering of light by the water in the bags confuses gnats and flies,

AND THUS, they stay away!

I haven’t tried this myself, because I haven’t had the need,

but if you have a sandwich bag, you can try it- FOR FREE.

Let me know your results :)

Happy De- Bugging !

Subway Sandwiches      Last Friday my son and I had a great time at Wheaton Regional Park!  We were there for ‘Fresh Fit Friday at the Park’ with sandwiches, chips, beverages, and bags of apple slices (great for kids!) provided by Subway !

Wheaton Regional Park has a train and carousel and playgrounds and picnic areas!!

Thanks to ResourcefulMommy for inviting us- check out her site for great tips on just about everything!

And also check out TeachMama – She has a great site on ingenious ways to teach your kids;

She and her cute kids were at the picnic too- She’s awesome :)

Check out Wheaton Regional if you get a chance- their link doesn’t work,

but it’s in Wheaton (obviously) and off of Georgia Avenue.

ENJOY!

Try Fabric Softener Sheets for Repelling Mosquitoes

fabric softener    I’m sure a lot of you have heard this before: Fabric Softener Sheets will repel mosquitoes.  Instructions say to tie a ribbon of fabric softener around a belt buckle and mosquitoes will vanish.

I looked on the web about this and lots of people say it doesn’t work,

On the Other Hand, my mother, who does a lot of gardening, swears by it;

She wears two sheets when in the garden.

So the answer is: everyone’s skin is different and it may work for you,

So give it a try!

Or just use OFF! Familycare, Smooth & Dry- powder dry formula, like I do :)

What’s In A Name?

What's in a name    I could talk about names all day.  I’m fascinated with names and why people choose certain names.

It’s a HUGE responsibility giving someone a name, and I don’t think you realize this until you’re pregnant.  Or, at least I didn’t.

Just agreeing on a name can be tough.  I know everyone has said,

“Yeah, I knew a real jerk named Bob*, we’re not going with Bob*.”

(* Fill in any possible name in the world)

Family names are cool.  And old-fashioned names are making a comeback.  But they always are, aren’t they?  We have a neighbor named Harriet, and her granddaughter is Harriet too, they call her ‘Haddy’.  Neighbors down the street gave their 2 kids the same monogram.  We have another little neighbor named Jasper (it’s old-fashioned AND a family name, it turns out).

Don’t believe me about old-fashioned names? Check out the Social Security website!  Yes, that social security.  The Social Security Administration has a part of their website devoted solely to the popularity of names!!!

book   It’s August, and a beautiful day here,

so I’m going with a simple, yet important quote today:

“If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck- it’s a duck.

Don’t over-think things, it’s that simple :)
