The Tao of Scrapbooking

Tao: a way, path, route, doctrine, principle, philosophy

I’ve never… scrapbooked.  There, I said it.

I have lots of photo albums filled with pictures of my son.  I even have them organized into ‘just my son’s life’ albums and general family photo albums…

So now I’m going to further document my son’s life with scrapbooks-

nursery school programs, a little artwork, the lock of hair from his first haircut, leftover pictures that I have in a box…

and then it hit me as I was going through all this stuff-

My Scrapbook is a Book of Scrap… or it will be  because I haven’t done it yet…

Or will it?

Man Rules

The following are MAN RULES. This is amended from an email I got :)

Men are NOT mind readers.

 Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not a
color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine…
Really.

You have enough clothes.

You have too many shoes.

Well, the last one isn’t true… how can anyone have too many shoes!

Go to Hershey!

We just got back from Hershey Park and what a great time it was!

If you’ve never gone- Go!

The drive is EASY from the DC area: just get on 270 and drive straight, I mean it.  270 becomes 40, and 40 becomes 15, you then make 1 exit and that’s it, until you see signs for Hershey Park.  It takes 2 hours, with no traffic, 2 hours and 15 minutes with traffic… it’s SO EASY!

They’ve expanded their waterpark, it now contains a big wave pool, with cabanas, and a lazy river ride.

We were there for 2 days and didn’t even take our bathing suits, if you want to do the waterpark stuff- devote a whole day to it.

AND YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT ELSE IS NEW?!  There are touchless hand sanitizers at the entrance to every kiddie ride:  you just put your hands under the box and it sprays your hands with hand sanitizer… BEST IDEA EVER !!!!!

And the bathrooms- because Moms care about this:

All the bathrooms have touchless soap dispensers, touchless water faucets, and touchless paper towel machines !!!!!!!  YEY !!!!  No germs, or almost no germs!

If you can go on a weekday- DO IT!  We went on Thursday and there were no lines for rides; by Friday, there were lines, but still do-able.  I wouldn’t even attempt to go on a Saturday, it must be So crowded.

Next year we’re going on a Monday and Tuesday.

Click here for Hershey Park coupons and packages available!

During the month of June, for example, go to any DC area CVS, Dairy Queen, or Quiznos and pick up $12 off coupons for regular admission!

YEY- go to Hershey- the sweetest place on earth !!!

Oyster Rules

Ahhh, it’s summer!  Seafood… my favorite, is in it’s prime!  Or is it?

According to Grey Goose Vodka, OYSTERS are best when ordered in months that contain the letter ‘R’

Oh well, I’m still ordering them!  I don’t even drink vodka, so why listen to Grey Goose?

Enjoy your oysters!  Remember, they are best when local!

Giant Food is Doing Good For Moms and Health

Giant Food just announced to Mom Bloggers in the area about their ‘Shop For Health, Eat for Life’ Program!  I was unable to attend their ‘Kick-Off’ event, but as a happy Giant shopper, I want to spread the word about this great program because Giant continues to make things easier for moms, and listens to their shoppers.

Shop For Health, Eat For Life is a partnership of Giant Food and The American Institute for Cancer Research.  The goal is to

* Help individuals and their families reduce their risk of cancer

and

*raise funds for cancer prevention.

From June 19th to July 2nd, Giant will help AICR spread its message of cancer prevention and good health with several in-store promotions and recipes, free nutrition education materials for kids and adults, and product giveaways in selected pharmacies.

AND, if you are around the Bethesda area, check out the Giant Food store on Arlington Road!  It has just completed a renovation and the store ROCKS!  It now has scanners, self-checkout, and drumroll:

A DELI KIOSK !

The store seems bigger…  The job of re-designing a store must be fascinating and whoever did this, whatever firm, has done a great job!

The employees are great too, but then again, they always have been.

AND, they have a coffee machine!  You put your money in, it comes out, and

THERE ARE HOLDERS ON THE NEW SHOPPING CARTS!

This has actually made my LIFE easier, I enjoy grocery shopping, my son enjoys it,

he scans everything, he knows how to weigh and print out the labels for produce…

Yey!  Thanks Giant!

The Wonderful World Of Ketchup

It’s red, it’s gloopy, it tends to get on everything from kids’ faces to clothing, but I have gone from a ketchup hater to lover…

The smell of ketchup made me sick when I was pregnant- literally.  And even now, if I was ever captured by terrorists and locked in a cell, all they would have to do is put a big blob of ketchup very close to my nose for an extended amount of time and I would ‘sing like a canary’, not that I know any State secrets.

But now, I have come to love ketchup, and have it in my home at-all-times-

Why, you may ask…?

Visit the American History Museum

What do you do when Daddy has to work on a Saturday?

You go to the American History Museum downtown!

The American History Museum re-opened last fall after a complete renovation… and it’s awesome.  The Transportation and Technology Exhibit is fantastic for car fanatics, like my son.

There’s also a kid science section that is great and has people doing experiments and explaining them.

This is also the museum which has Dorothy’s Ruby slippers and the original Kermit The Frog, but don’t go down just for that, it’s a little area with about 10 different things and that’s it…

Another Good Point, However:  People tend to think parking is a  problem on the Mall-

AND it’s NOT!  Parking is FREE on the weekends and we pulled into a spot right by the museum…

NO PROBLEM!

Something to watch out for:  The salad bar in the cafeteria is expensive…

Pay attention to how much you are heaping in the big salad bowls that are provided because

it will be weighed!

ENJOY!
